Firefighters from stations across the Isle of Wight have been mobilised to a fire at the former Cygnet Hotel in the seaside town of Sandown tonight (Tuesday).
4 appliances from Sandown, Ryde, Newport and Ventnor – alongside an Aerial Ladder Platform and the temporary Incident Command Support vehicle – are on scene at the junction of Carter Street and Broadway.
It’s here that a small blaze has broke out in the now-derelict and already fire-hit hotel building.
It was just before 19:50 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to smoke issuing from what remains of the once popular hotel.
Island Echo is told that 2 males were ‘escorted’ from the property by firefighters upon their arrival. Police are now in attendance, given the suspicious nature of the fire.
Main jets are being used to douse the flames and bring the situation under control.
Water is pulled being from a nearby hydrant, which may result in low pressure or discolouration for nearby properties.

How many more fires in this derelict building have to happen – unnecessarily risking our firefighters lives – before our pathetic IW Clowncil will do something?
Heaven forbid a firefighter should be injured, or worse, before they act!
How long before someone gets killed in this dangerous building,
time to make it safe by demolishing it.
I keep saying it demolish all of them no more fires then some one may come in and build something nice.
