Firefighters from Freshwater were called Calbourne last night (Wednesday) to help prevent further flood water from entering a residential property.
1 appliance was mobilised to the scene at the gatehouse at Westover Park, Lynch Lane at around 22:00. It followed reports from the occupants that their property was being threatened by flooding with an inch of water already covering the ground floor.
Retained firefighters used hard suction and main jets to pump the water away from the home and into a nearby stream, but the damage had already been done.
The work of the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service continued into the early hours of the morning before the crew were able to stand down and return to station.
It’s understood that water from a large pond at the edge of the £4million Westover Park breached the banks and overflowed into the gatehouse cottage near Winkle Street.
