The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have tackled a fire at GKN Aerospace’s Osborne site in East Cowes overnight.
At 01:06 this morning (Tuesday), a total of 4 appliances, an aerial ladder platform and the Incident Command Unit were mobilised to Saunders Way.
It was discovered that a fire had developed in an extraction bench within a welding bay adjacent to acetylene cylinders.
Crews from Newport, East Cowes, Cowes and Ryde used hose reels, 6 breathing apparatus and positive pressure ventilation to tackle the fire and bring the risky situation under control.
Firefighters stood down from the incident and returned to station by 03:15.
Shortly before midnight, 3 appliances from Newport and Cowes were mobilised to a cell fire at HMP Isle of Wight.
The incident was swiftly dealt with by prison officers ahead of the arrival of fire crews.
