Pyle Street in Newport has been cordoned off by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service this morning (Thursday) because of an unknown incident, thought to be electrical related.
A single pumping appliance from Newport made the short journey to the scene in the town centre at around 09:30.
The incident – which is unknown in its cause – has unfolded directly outside Newport Conservative Club.
The road is currently blocked as a result and will remain so for the time being.
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are also present at the scene.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE @ 10:37 – It has been confirmed that an underground electrical fire has sparked this morning’s emergency response.
Engineers from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are now on scene and are conducting investigations in the area.
A number of properties are without power as a result.
How unfortunate just when the festival traffic is adding to chaos.
Still could be worse, could have had another newcomer trying to do some terror attack at the Festival to gain full attention.
Rather be poor and happy rather than enriched but miserable, myself.

Perhaps it’s the Torys’ reaction into the Party Gate report on Boris Johnson which (as just a small part) concludes “Johnson’s contempt has no precedent, report says”
So many IoW residents blindly worshiped him & now we know officially, (from 4 of his own party as well) that he is a compulsive, and totally unrepentant liar
Except that the report is a total pack of lies .
Unfortunately (for us all), Johnson is a compulsive liar
He lied, in the Brexit campaign (in big letters on the side of a bus) about how much money we sent to the EU
He was found guilty in court, for lying to the Queen, about the reason for proroguing parliament after the Brexit vote.
He was fined for breaking the rules by attending parties @ No.10 during Covid, (which he stated categorically, in parliament, that he hadn’t)
Obviously, the committee (of mostly conservative MPs) had far more evidence than just that.
So I think, on the balance of probabilities and evidence, it’s much more likely that that he’s a liar, and they’re not.
