UPDATED: The Isle of Wight fire and rescue service are responding to reports of a property fire in Ventnor this morning (Friday).
Appliances have been mobilised to the scene at Winterbourne on Bonchurch Village Road with crews from Ryde and Shanklin currently responding.
The call came in at 11:43.
UPDATE @ 12:20 – 2 appliances are now in attendance at the grand country property, where Charles Dickens once stayed.
Smoke has been seen issuing from the cavity of a stone wall.
UPDATE @ 12:31 – Fire crews are now leaving the scene having successfully dealt with the small fire.
It is understood contractors carrying out work at the property set fire to old rubbish within a small hollowing of the historic brickwork.
Firefighters have cleared out the small pieces of debris and checked the entire area to ensure the fire has not spread to other areas.
