UPDATED: 4 fire appliances and a water carrier have been mobilised to an out of control bonfire measuring 50m x 50m in Brighstone this afternoon (Tuesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised crews from Newport, Freshwater and Ryde at just before 13:30.
2 main jets are being used to bring the blaze under control.
UPDATE @ 14:32 – The fire has been located in a remote location within the grounds of Brook Hill House, between Brook and Chessell.
Appliances from Newport, Ryde, East Cowes and Freshwater remain on scene alongside 2 water carriers from Freshwater and Ventnor.
UPDATE @ 15:23 – The tricky terrain has proved a challenge for firefighters, but the incident has now been brought under control.
Large amounts of water have been used to fully extinguish the fire, with 2 water carriers shuttling to and from the main hydrant.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has attended the scene, but it has been confirmed that no one has been injured.
UPDATE @ 17:20 – It has been confirmed that the fire has now been extinguished and crews remain on scene damping down.
An area of 50m x 80m has been affected by intermittent fire damage.
Crews from across the Island have used 4 main jets to bring the blaze to a halt, before it could engulf woodland.
