UPDATED: Fire appliances from across the Isle of Wight have responded to a false alarm at the historic Carisbrooke Castle this evening (Sunday).
Crews from Newport and Shanklin mobilised to the Castle shortly after 19:00, but the first firefighters on scene were able to swiftly confirm that the call out was nothing more than a false alarm.
Ryde Fire Station was also mobilised.
UPDATE @ 20:00 – It has been confirmed that the fire was infact a beacon lighting in memory of the fallen.
A member of the public spotted flames and raised the alarm, with good intent.
