A drug driver from Shanklin was stopped by Police because 3 of his brake lights were out, a court has heard.
Haydn Parker, 20, of Denny Gardens in Shanklin admitted drug driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday 10th September).
Prosecuting, Lauren Stone told the court that on 12th March, at around 22:55, Police were travelling along Merstone Lane when they noticed a green Ford Fiesta being driven with numerous brake lights not working.
Officers activated blue lights and pulled the vehicle over. Parker – the driver of the vehicle – admitted to being a cannabis smoker.
A roadside drugs wipe conducted at the scene returned an above-level reading of THC (cannabis breakdown product).
A small amount of cannabis was found in Parker’s vehicle, but that offence was dealt with by way of a community resolution.
Defending himself, Parker told the court that it was a mistake to get in the car and drive that night, adding that he was very sorry for what he had done.
Magistrates handed the 20-year-old a 12-month driving ban. He was also fined £300, and ordered to pay £85 costs with a £120 surcharge fee.
