A Ryde man who was made subject to a community order after smashing up a car with an estate agent sign has appeared in court again, this time charged with failing to comply with the order.
Edward Lale, 29, of Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday as a result of failing to comply with the conditions of a community order he received last November. He was handed an 18-month community order with 240 hours of unpaid work attached, as well as being ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation.
The Probation Service told the court that a letter was sent on 22nd November ahead of a telephone appointment on 25th, which Lale failed to attend. A second letter was sent for an appointment on 2nd December, which he also failed to attend.
With no contact from the 29-year-old – who has 13 convictions for 56 offences – and compliance rated as poor, the Probation Service deemed him to be in breach.
Defending, Oscar Vincent said that Lale had been through ‘major upheaval’ in his life and had been made homeless. Mr Vincent explained that the telephone number and address the Probation Service had for his client was no longer valid.
The court heard that Lale had made significant improvements and was now staying with family. The court also heard that Lale’s secured a job working with a well-known lorry firm, starting on Monday.
Magistrates revoke the previous order and sentenced Ed Lale to an 18-month community order with 240 hours of unpaid work and 15 rehabilitation days.
