A Ryde man has been ordered to pay £2,000 in compensation after he smashed up a Mercedes-Benz in Ryde last month.
Edward Lale, of Arthur Street in Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday charged with 1 offence of criminal damage, to which he pleaded guilty.
The court heard from the Crown Prosecution Service that Lale smashed both the front and rear windscreen of the Mercedes, which was parked in George Street early on the morning of 31st October. He also damaged a wing mirror and dented both the A-pillar and bonnet of the vehicle.
At one point an estate agent board was used to attack the car, which belonged to the mother of someone Lale had experienced a falling out with.
For the prosecution, Miss Watson highlighted that Ed Lale had previously been convicted for no less than 56 offences, including 15 for criminal damage. He was sentenced to 44 weeks in custody back in January of this year and was released in June. Lale appeared in Island Echo’s court round up just a few weeks ago.
Defending, Christopher Pix said his client expressed remorse for what he did and highlighted to the court that Lale made admissions in interview almost immediately. Mr Pix stated that there was no getting away from Lale’s previous convictions, however.
Magistrates ordered Lale to complete an 18-month community order with 240 hours of unpaid work attached. They also offered him to pay £2,000 in compensation, costs of £85 and a £95 surcharge.

Sadly some people are born with the disability of being so thick that life is to difficult for them.
What an absolute idiot !!
Bring back national service for these people on the Island
What makes you think that the military would want his kind ?
Send him to prison, end of.
The bloke is an obvious coward by doing what he did in the middle of the night and without Joe public about.
What an absolute tool, he looks like a total chav ! And to damage someone’s car , someone’s pride and joy is utterly deplorable, he looks like he cannot afford a carrier bag from Sainsbury’s but if he did have possessions and somebody put a little scratch on anything he owns he would squeal like a baby to the police. If he is on benefits he should have no money until the 2000 is paid off…. Scum and a drain on us tax payers
What can we do with such low life individuals, they are no good what so ever to society.
Wow, bet that driver regrets parking on double yellow lines now.
He admitted it straight away…how upstanding of him… Only because he was filmed doing it!
he was probably angry because it was parked on double yellow lines!
What can you say????
Total scum what has he gained from this act of total stupidity ???‽
Sometimes no matter how miffed you are with the world/ situation you have to take a step back breathe and think of the outcome and at the end of the day is it worth a criminal record ????
Dream it but please don’t act upon it really not worth it …
We are a human society so act as a human not scum !!!!!
