The main road between Ryde and Sandown is set to be closed at Brading High Street tonight (Wednesday), impacting those heading to and from Sandown’s illuminated carnival.
Island Roads are undertaking carriageway repairs between 19:30 and 23:00, resulting in the closure of the High Street in both directions.
Although notice has been given to passing motorists, the closure comes at a really bad time – not only is it the last week of the Summer holidays, but thousands of people will be descending on Sandown tonight for the town’s annual illuminated carnival.
The procession moves off at 20:30 and will conclude before Brading is re-opened at 23:00. With this in mind organisers are advising carnival goers to allow extra time.
Motorists will have to divert via St Helens and Bembridge in both directions (officially), or via Brading Downs Road and Ashey Road.
You would think island roads would move it to tomorrow how are carnival float’s supposed to get up the hills on the detour

The council on the island seems to very bad at organising things. Surely they could have told the roads people to do it another day. Is the council lazy or just stupid?

Unfortunately the contractual arrangements the Council entered into with Island Roads do not give them the ability to tell Island Roads what to do.
The council’s part of the contract is to pay Island Roads a lot of our money.
Islands Roads part of the contract is to do whatever TF that want to.
(there is probably some loose obligation on behalf of Island Roads to perhaps think about maintaing the roads to a standard slightly, but often imperceptibly, better than if they did nothing,.. but that’s about it)
I now notice that cones have been put up outside houses on Perowne Way and no notice given or news as to why this is?
You woild think they couldn’t care a jot sbout rhe island.
