A piece of metal hanging dangerously from the Island’s tallest residential building has led to a call out for firefighters to Sandown this afternoon (Monday).
Crews from Shanklin and Ryde are in attendance on the Esplanade due to a potentially lethal piece of metal fascia that has become dislodged at Napoleon’s Landing.
Cordons have been put in place immediately below the section of building at the center of the situation, and on the footpath to the rear, in the interests of public safety.
Although the problem isn’t immediately obvious as the metal work cannot be seen from the ground, there are fears it could fly off and land on the busy road and pavement below.
The Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) has been called in to see if firefighters can reach the metal object.
Island Roads has been made aware of the incident, with formal closures being put in place.
UPDATE @ 14:34 – The piece of metal has now been made safe and has been retrieved by firefighters using the ALP.
