35-year-old Ben Entwistle, who armed himself with knives and carried out violent behaviour in Shanklin, has been sent back to prison after an incident in 2021 that saw him arrested by Armed Police.
On the afternoon of Friday 17th December 2021, Police were called with reports that Entwistle had turned up at an address in Oaklyn Gardens, Shanklin armed with a knife.
Entwistle had attended a funeral earlier that day before heading to a wake at Shanklin Football Club, where he became drunk and violent and got into physical altercations with a number of people. He was eventually thrown out and taken home but returned armed with a serrated kitchen knife. The knife was taken off him after he was restrained by other people present.
Entwistle later attended the Oaklyn Gardens address – which was occupied by people known to him – with a knife, before proceeding to kick the door in as part of his attempt to gain entry.
Armed officers were deployed and located Entwistle in Regent Street in the town with an injury to his head. After his arrest, he was searched and officers found 2 kitchen knives in a drawstring bag around his neck, as well as 2 bags of cannabis in his trouser pocket.
Entwistle was subsequently taken to hospital where he became abusive towards police, hospital staff and patients before threatening police with violence and racially abusing a police officer
He was later charged with affray, possession of a bladed article in a public place, possession of cannabis, a racially aggravated public order offence, using threatening words and behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress, and using threatening words and behaviour with intent to cause fear of violence.
Entwistle, formerly of Westlake Avenue in Lake, admitted the offences on the first day of a trial which was due to start at Portsmouth Crown Court on 31st October 2022.
His home in Westlake Avenue was destroyed as a result of an arson attack back in February of last year, as previously reported by Island Echo.
Appearing at the same court last Thursday (26th January), Ben Entwistle was sentenced to 2 years and 10 months in prison. He was sent to prison for 22 weeks back in 2019 after pleading guilty to 8 charges relating to a near-fatal crash on Briddlesford Road.
In 2018, the-then 30-year-old was arrested by Police after a manhunt across the Isle of Wight. He was eventually found at an address on Linden Road, Carisbrooke.
10 years ago, back in 2013, Police issued an appeal for information to find Entwistle for breaking the conditions of his release from prison. At the time they advised people from approaching him.
Following the sentencing, PC Leah Fearn said:
“This was a prolonged episode of violence and aggression directed at a number of people, including police and medical professionals.
“Entwistle armed himself with a knife, and also hurled racist abuse at a police officer during the course of his offending behaviour.
“His actions that night were shocking, and he is rightly paying the price for these. Violent behaviour will never be tolerated, and we take a particularly robust stance against those who carry knives.
“I hope this reassures the community that we will take action against those who behave in this awful manner.”

Should have been longer.
Entwhistle is a weak and pathetic little man child who has to resort to weapons to achieve his aims in life. He doesn’t have the mental capacity or intelligence to use words or work to succeed.
He also keeps up this violent image and pretence, because he is absolutely petrified and scared stiff of facing the mental and emotional consequences of his past, as well as being too chicken to face those he has hurt and apologise. At the end of the day, he will continue this cycle of crime and punishment until he either learns to be nice to people or he dies.
Voilance is part in his DNA, two and half years is just over one and half years in reality….I don’t understand our justice system at all, and never will…Asta lavista baby, he will be back..
22 weeks for a near fatal crash, lol! I guess almost murdering a young mom with a car is cool beans, lol.
Imagine if we jailed him properly then… ehh.
It is unfortunate that “Kidders” did not get his facts right. If he bothered to look at the referenced IE report he would see that the police withdrew the charge of causing death by dangerous driving having concluded that he was not blame for the crash. This error can only distract from the other very valid adverse comments.
True. But he was banned from driving and uninsured at the time.
Had he obeyed his ban the other driver would not have to live with the consequences of the near fatal crash.
He also left the scene.
She was a drug driver and didn’t look where she was goin
Take the poor lad to the vets it’s best that way
Soon be back terrorising normal people. …….
Throw away the key. Complete waste of space.
Did he not get a nfa for the car accident, just held for 22 weeks then released? while they blamed the poor girl?
Don’t forget attacking a vicar that woke him up in a grave yard, while he was sleeping naked,
or attacking people with hammers!
Or harassing any girl friends who were unfortunate to get mixed up with him?
Someone should write a book about the filthy cretin, awful excuse for a human being,
Society shouldn’t have to put up with continual idiots like this, it should be 3 strikes then a life sentence.
Maybe he just likes being in jails, with all those other males around him……
Squeal like a piggie boy …
Quite a few folk on the island make the great film Deliverance look like a documentary. In fact, this boy is a ringer for the banjo kid. Maybe “Dueling Banjos” could be adopted as the island’s official anthem. Squeal like a piggie boy!
Lose the key and forget about this little big man.
Note to council/ island roads do you see how filthy the streets name sign i. It could do with a scrub
A robust stance is just a load of cobblers 5yrs minimum should be the norm for going tooled up for trouble with no remission if he had damaged someone they would have to put up with the consequences for a lot longer than that .
when will courts start to act for the law abiding citizen and act accordingly and stop listening to meek excuses by perpetrators.
Grow up Ben Entwistle for God sake. Your 35 years of age. Take responsibility for yourself and your violent behaviour which is totally unacceptable!
Sunny u ain’t no better your self
Usually offenders who get off this lightly time and time again are a police grass
All lowlifes need to be removed from society.
