30-year-old Ben Entwhistle of Westlake Avenue, Lake has been remanded in custody after being charged with a number of offences.
As previously reported by Island Echo, a male was detained by Police at an address in Linden Road, Newport yesterday afternoon. 2 vehicles were seized from this address and a third vehicle was seized at another location.
Hampshire Constabulary have now confirmed that Entwhistle has been charged with numerous offences including criminal damage, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop for Police and possession of a class B drug. It follows a number of helicopter searches and Police pursuits over the past couple of weeks.
A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Islanders may have noticed a heightened police presence on specific occasions over the last month in Lake, including officers on foot and the National Police Air Service helicopter overhead.
“This activity formed part of enquiries into a number of reported offences on the Isle of Wight”.
It remains unclear why Police did not issue a public appeal for information in a bid to locate and detain Entwhistle.
Ben Entwhistle will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court tomorrow (Friday).
