Emergency services have been mobilised to a road traffic collision on the outskirts of Ryde this morning (Wednesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have all been called to the 2-vehicle incident at Smallbrook mini-roundabout.
2 fire appliances from Ryde Fire Station are in attendance at the scene, but no one appears to be trapped or seriously injured.
The crash, which took place shortly before 10:50, has involved a Mini One and a Honda CRV.
The road remains open but with minor delays on all approaches.
UPDATE @ 11:15 – Paramedics are attending to 2 female casualties who have been injured in the crash.
Earlier today the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service tweeted to note that there will be a likely increase in traffic on our roads.
This incident is the second road traffic collision of the day. Police were called to Fort Street, Sandown at around 07:30.
With the changes to Government advice active from today it is likely we will see an increase in traffic on our roads and footfall in our parks and green spaces . Please take care when driving, walking, cycling etc. Help us protect you. Stay Alert | Control the Virus | Save Lives

Same old back to normal people not giving way thinking they’ve got the right of way regardless of what the Highway code says
Very true I was there that’s exactly what happened people don’t even slow down
That roundabout is dangerous. My friend on his Motorcycle was on the roundabout having come down from Carter road and heading towards Ashey Down. A woman coming from the Ryde side of Ashey road, never stopped or slowed down, ending with her car hitting my friends leg. She swerved and drove off. fortunately no serious harm was done.
Also this mini roundabout is wholly inadequate for the volume of traffic.
This sort of behaviour is all too common with many people reluctant to slow down. I actually think it’s worse at the Brading roundabout, when cars coming from Ryde on the main road sometimes don’t look right into Coach Lane. Been on the receiving end of this (as cyclist and motorist) many times coming from Coach Lane, and can see sometimes that driver’s heads don’t actually turn to look. Now I’m extra careful but only because of close shaves in the past.
If the roundabouts were actually physical constructs rather than just road markings, people would have to slow down. But then again, lots of cars would be ploughing into them as what used to happen.
Traffic lights would sort it ,,,,,, then everyone would moan about that but it would put safety first
There is nothing wrong with the roundabout, Just the people using it.
Would agree with you to a point, there’s plenty of idiots about. But very often during busy times, there’s cars coming from all four directions, who goes first then?
Mini roundabouts are dangerous! If you can’t see that, there is something wrong with you.
They can’t be treated like normal roundabouts because they are too small an aria, time for law makers to get rid..
Thats why they have road signs and give way lines for people like you, you must be a really bad driver, revisit your highway code as it looks like like you need a refresher.
41 years driving with no accidents and a clean licence, how much experience have you numb nuts???
It’s dipsticks like you that shouldn’t even think about driving, I expect you got your license in a raffle.
Since you asked in such a childish manner i will answer.
I have spent 44 years driving also without any accidents or points, 31 years of this was spent in the Emergerncy services, I am an Advanced class 1 driver trained in high speed pursuits, Tpac trained plus trained in various other driving related areas.
I have dealt with hundreds of RTC’s from minor prangs to Fatalities in my careers.
I have dealt with people like you making the same claim, my answer to them was, sure but i bet you have witnessed loads of accidents that you probably assisted in causing.
Next time you start name calling and asking where individuals got their licences from be careful as you will get answers that you were not expecting. Now drive safe and i hope you keep your licence clean.
I have more driving qualifications than you have had hot dinners and dealt with morons on the road like you for over 40 years. Grow up with your name calling and as said before go revisit your highway code, they even put pictures in there to help people like you.
Have you enjoyed the pictures? I bet your very excited..
I have seen more death and distruction on the roads than you could ever dream of and dealt with everything from bad driving to serious and fatalities most caused by poor to very bad driving. From your responses i would put you at midway between a poor driver and one that is close to being careless. Now grow up as you are really painting a picture of yourself as a sad little person with nothing else better to do than name call.
Has I said, 41 years, no accidents or points on my licence, if that’s bad driving I think you need to practice what you preach.
Get off the road before you injure someone, because you don’t fool me one moment about your claims of being a professional drive.
Really not bothered what you believe, and yes you have been fooled what i have stated is completly true. Now try to stay safe and try and keep that licence as clean as what you say.
That so called roundabout should be removed, there should be a normal cross road instead.
There have been many collections over the years on that roundabout it’s time for action,
Get Rid!..
Clare how much was raised ?
It’s amazing how many brain dead idiots give opinions on this forum, I’m relatively new to this forum and I have to say I had no idea there were so many idiots.
I’m begining to think it’s time to give all these idiots the contempt they deserve…
No wonder the Island has so many bad drivers, it’s a bloody epidemic.
A significant problem is that a lot of drivers don’t seem to know the exact driving rules that apply to mini-roundabouts. On approaching one, you are supposed to give way to vehicles coming from just the first junction on your immediate right and not any further junction. I often travel cross Smallbrook junction and it is amazing how many motorists, coming from the opposite junction and wanting to turn right across my path, seem to think they have priority over me. They never seem to consider the fact that if I also wanted to turn right then, by their thinking, I would also have priority over them which obviously can’t work. That is why give way to vehicles from the immediate right is the rule.
The mini-roundabout just above it at Upton Cross suffers the added issue of drivers coming from Ryde often drive straight onto the roundabout without even looking right.
Must be some thing to do with the inforced not using cars since virus, these drivers need extra practice to remember how to drive again!
7 weeks in lockdown. Have these drivers forgotten the rules of the road? Or are they just bad drivers all of the time? SPEEDING?
If you dont know your left from your right, then one shouldnt hold a uk driving licence. Simples!
