A cyclist has been injured in an incident on one of the main routes in Bembridge this afternoon (Sunday).
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene at the bottom of Culver Down on Sandown Road at around 13:45.
Traffic delays were heavy in the area with the road blocked by those tending to the casualty.
It is not believed that a collision took place, despite the nature of the incident.
Emergency services stayed at the scene until about 14:45.
The road is now clear and traffic is moving freely once again.

Why is there a large grey VW van with NO Mot parked along Great Preston Road, Ryde outside the Council Houses
What’s that gone to do with this post?
Why do you not just go and ask Paul yourself?
This is not South Africa laws where people are unreasonable and think they have a right to park outside their subsidised abodes
Mr M knows you and living opposite with easy to spot red hair is aware you have issues feeling as a tenant not an owner you have inferior issues and so are obsessed over parking
In the UK you don’t have any rights to parking outside your owned or council rented property. This is not Zim
Windey we have had issues with this vile person over parking to.
She is using another man’s name to blame and try to deflect the fact on here of her identity, yet, the size of her mouth, body and red hair is not easy to mistake to anyone having the misfortune to live near by.
Jealous of those who work and can fund their own families whilst they use having children as their source of income has made them unpleasant beings I am afraid.
Grow up idiot
Hope cyclist ok,but 3 ambulances for one person! When others have to wait hours, surely first on scene could of assessed situation and others stood down. Like police either get no response or 4/5 of them.
One paramedic car, one police car, one ambulance.
There’s probably a very good reason why there are three medical professionals on scene. Also there is most probably 2 police units closing off the roads. This is what it takes to manage a scene and to keep it as safe as possible.
More bad driving on the IW
A dangerous junction Needs sleeping policemen both sides of that junction. Signs are ignored by the ignorant but your sump left in the road would not be
Quite agree, that’s an extremely dangerous junction.
Get a job.Get a Car. Pessant.
First lesson in trolling never leave your name and address.
Some bikes cost more than any car you have or ever will own
If I said the feet in question probably couldn’t reach the ground because its a steep slope, cyclists will understand. That’s my guess.
you think this is bad wait till the lycra clad nutters come over in there hundreds after Tour of Britain have been here
What is your comment based on? Cycling and walking is healthy the more people that do this the better for themselves and the NHS who don’t have to treat people with heart failure and all manner of illnesses due to obesity. Sitting on the sofa making statements that mean nothing constructive is ridiculous.
On that subject – and, yes, I know it’s slightly off-topic – but I notice that road signs have now appeared around the route saying roads will be closed between 11.30 and 15.00 hours. I thought we were told it would only be 30 minute rolling-road closures as the cyclists went through? At the moment it seems like most of the main roads on the Island will be shut for a large portion of the day and with no parking for 24 hours. I don’t know what people are going to do if they live on the route and have no off-road parking?
