Firefighters have identified an electrical fault as the cause of a house fire in East Cowes yesterday (Thursday), in which a dog sadly perished.
As previously reported by Island Echo, 2 appliances from East Cowes and Newport were mobilised to Osborne Heights, off Old Road, at 15:20 following reports of a fire within an end-of-terrace property.
Flames and smoke were visible as the first crew arrived on scene, with breathing apparatus quickly donned and entry made to the family home.
2 hose reel jets were used to extinguish the fire and positive pressure ventilation was utilised to clear the smoke. However, the fire had already taken hold causing significant damage to the ground floor and smoke damage to the first floor.
Sadly, it has been confirmed by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service that a dog died in the fire.
The fire started in the living room as a result of an electrical fault.
