New research has revealed the UK’s top 10 seaside towns for parking facilities – and East Cowes here on the Isle of Wight has been revealed as the 3rd best in the UK.
Bill Plant Driving School has analysed the number of safe public car parks, total parking spaces, and % of disabled spaces across UK seaside towns to reveal the top 10 best seaside towns in the UK for parking.
The report found that East Cowes had 20 public safe car parks – including those on Well Road and Maresfield Road- totalling around 5,290 spaces available for the public visiting the town.
This isn’t the 1st time people have been talking about East Cowes parking facilities though, with it announced in June that the site on Maresfield Road was to return to offering paid parking – but only in a cashless form.
The new report also found that of those 5,290 spaces around 235 were disabled spaces – roughly 4.44%.
Overall, the popular town’s score of 7.53 out of 10 ranked it in joint 3rd with Llandudno Junction in North Wales.

Great to hear positive news for our council. Credit where it’s due. I rarely go to Cowes but must make life easier for car owners in these busy street parking days.
This is not Cowes this is East Cowes there is a difference
Probably because most car drivers don’t want to park there, it’s not really a visitor destination!
Not all towns by the sea are seaside resorts. This being one. They should change their definition.
Wow! Such prestigious award. Typical IW Council, provide an abundance of car parking spaces in a place most people wouldn’t be seen dead in.
Good,.. we won’t see you here then luckily …
Good news for cars but can we also get pavement on Old Rd near Millfield Ave where the school full of children is? Or at least replace “SLOW” paint which does nothing to stop cars speeding from the hill with some physical surface change that will actually make cars slow down on that turn? It’s so scary to walk there ;S
You are having a laugh. What a ridiculous joke.
I live in East Cowes, Please can someone tell me where these 20 car parks are?
Was wondering that myself. Maybe they added a zero at the end by mistake!
For a moment I thought it was April 1st. The only way we could pack 5000 cars into East Cowes is by counting the queue for the ferry. We don’t even have a seaside to speak of.
Because who in their right mind would want to park in, or let alone visit, East Cowes.
I never knew that Monkey Town had a sea side ! ?
I wonder where all the parking charge monies go.
There’s nothing in east Cowes!!!
Hence the abundant parking.
Perhaps provide a list of the 20 car parks close to the seafront. And exclude Waitrose, as technically not a public ( council owned,), car park.
Shame they seem to be trying to make it as difficult as possible for residents to park though.
