3 appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a property fire in Freshwater this morning (Thursday).
Firefighters from Cowes, Freshwater and Newport are on scene at School Green Road, where a fire has broke out in the living room of a ground floor flat.
Emergency services were called to the address at 07:29.
Thankfully, all persons are accounted for and the fire has now been extinguished. Crews remain on scene conducting safety checks and ridding smoke from the property.
Southern Vectis Route 7 buses are diverting locally due to the closure of the road. Buses will divert via Stroud Road, Camp Road, Queens Road and Brookside in both directions until further notice. School Green Road is currently closed from Moa Place to Afton Road.
UPDATE @ 08:50 – A large amount of burnt debris has been removed from the property, with positive pressure ventilation used to clear smoke from the building.
Firefighters have donned breathing apparatus and used main jets to bring the fire under control.
The cause is unknown at this time.
The British Red Cross Emergency & Fire Support Unit has been requested to provide assistance to the property occupiers.
