A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop following an alleged incident of shoplifting took place in Newport yesterday (Sunday).
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received a report from B&Q in Newport of suspected shoplifting shortly before 14:00.
As part of Police enquiries, a 41-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman, both from the Isle of Wight, were arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop. Both have been bailed until 6th November pending further enquiries.
A number of items of suspected stolen property have also been seized by officers as part of the ongoing investigation.
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“We’re continuing to work with retailers across the Island to ensure that businesses both big and small have the tools and support they need to tackle shoplifting, which can fund other forms of criminal activity.”

ALL shops should now ban them from entry.
The only way this scum will learn is to have to beg others to help them.
Agree, probably only consequence ,as doubt much will come out of Court.Whatever happened to Shop watch?.
Les when I shop at B&Q I always feel like I am being robbed by the
Company themselves, especially when you see how much extra they charge
customers for many items compared to what they charge Trade Customers
Eg Builders.
Why such a price difference, when builders etc purchase items at a much
cheaper price, they add extra costs to materials to their customers.
Probably because builders spend far more throughout the year with them than your average DIY customer. B&Q have to compete with other trade suppliers, eg, Builder Centre, Jewsons etc, to retain those valued customers, hence the cheaper prices.
Very true Bob, but does not feel good for normal customers.
I usually purchase from their B&Q Scdewfix division and some items
are half the price of B&Q
In the current climate one has to shop around.
Sometimes B&M or the Range are much cheaper for many items
or even Hurst.
Do you know what you are actually talking about? It is quite evident you do not! Firstly, many B&Q products are cheaper than their competitors. Secondly, tradespeople are charged exactly the same as normal customers – the only difference is if a tradesperson holds a ‘trade card’, they can receive up to 10% discount, if they have qualified by spending a certain amount during one month. This discount then rolls over for a further 3 months. I suggest you get your facts right before spouting off on a public forum & making yourself look stupid.
Over the years I have purchased many B&Q products, many of the items are
rubbish.
Purchase one of their £25.00 decorating sets.
scissors fall apart when first using them.
Try Hurst 1st is my Motto from now on.
I don’t doubt that for a moment. However, the same principle can be applied to practically anything. Admittedly, some cheaper ‘own’ brands can be very good but generally in this day & age you only get what you pay for. Even some of the more expensive ‘branded’ names are of an inferior quality than previously. Sign of the times I guess…
as i said george totally correct
hello just to correct you slightly, trade customers Eg Builders are on a sliding scale percentage discount, which only applies if they spend alot of money on supplies, as they buy materials and reach a certain amount , they recieve 5% discount at the till , and it will increase to 10% , but they have to maintain the spending every month , if they dont , they will drop to normal customer spending deal s
UK LAWS ARE STRANGE
There’s been a van parked along Great Preston Road Ryde with NO MOT
for nearly 6 months and is used on a regular basis and nothing gets done about it.
Van was reported to Island Roads, DVLA and the Ryde Dsitrict Steward
YET NOTHING GETS DONE ABOUT IT
Does not surprise me.
The same applies to Parking on the Island.
Civil Enforcement Officers book vehicles who have gone over their time
In Car Parks even though they had paid.
YET YOU CAN PARK ON DOUBLE YELLOW LINES OUTSIDE SANDOWN PIER AND
NAPOLEONS LANDING and the COUNCIL DON’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
Maybe they are friends of the Persons who park outside the Pier
GOLDFISH BOWL ISLAND
Who can respect this Council – I don’t.
USELESS
No one on the Island understands Traffic Offences
IT IS AN OFFENCE TO LEAVE A VEHICLE ON A ROAD OR STREET THAT HAS NO MOT
IW Council and Island Roads obviously don’t understand the RULES.
£1,000 FINE AS PER DVLA
That is because the Island is run by Carrot crunching Numpties who have no
idea what they are doing.
HENCE NO LAW & ORDER, THE VAN WILL ROT ALONG GREAT PRESTON ROAD
Totally agree..parking is a free for all and it’s quite easy to become obsessed with nothing else?
Have not got me yet I go and fill my van up again like most days freebies love it
English language please.
No rather not old fart
Stop running around with your pecker out very strange person
