Police carried out a drugs raid on 2 commercial premises in Shanklin yesterday morning (Monday), seizing a quantity of suspected Class B drugs.
As part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected supply of drugs on the Isle of Wight, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary executed a warrant at 2 separate properties – Shanklin Vapours and The Hempire – both located opposite one another on Regent Street.
Officers conducted searches of the 2 commercially connected shops at 10:45, leading to a number of items being seized.
It has been confirmed that suspected cannabis was found by Police, with a number of digital devices also located and seized.
Enquiries remain ongoing at this time, including tests on the suspected Class B drugs.
A message on both Shanklin Vapour’s and The Hempire’s Facebook Pages yesterday said that the doors had closed to both for the day ‘due to unforeseen circumstances’.
The owner of both shops has been approached for a statement

Walk into most properties on this island and find drugs…..
What a ridiculous thing to say!
Go away you strange person
Butt out, I wasn’t talking to you!
Why ridiculous? I could buy weed on any street, in any town, more easily than a cigar or good pipe tobacco.
Not most ,but at least 30% , drugs found in two drug shop’s – that must of took alot to work out. Did you know they sell ice cream in cafe and mobile vans. We all sniff it everywhere unfortunately it’s more common than sex these days. Either do something substantial to stop it or legalization, all this way of doing just ain’t getting anywhere and it’s tax payers footing the bill all the time.
There’s some truth there..you can smell cannabis all over.. the island is riddled..
Just legalise cannabis and make some tax on it.
And mushrooms aswell! Make me laugh that a mushroom is in the same class as smack and crack.
Tell the bird who ate mushrooms at Ventnor Botanic Gardens that. Her aunt died. Not just a bit with a bad trip, but actually grieving and funeral, you fool
Lol that’s so funny lightweight
Wow, getting like Amsterdam
I’ve reported an address to the police where drugs are being dealt but nothings been done. Overworked with so many on the island.
Hope you don’t face the consequences for telling
There’s a nunnery in California USA that grow this stuff. Used for medicinal purposes..it’s an amazing drug with so many benefits, clothing and much more, selling it in certain shops can be a good thing rather than buying it from there dealer.. thank heavens we’re not as bad as up north. But it won’t be long unless it’s in a controlled way.. these dealers are not nice if you don’t pay up as seen already on the island.
It is brilliant for medicinal purposes, I take Cannabis CBD Oil which is completely legal. The THC element has been removed. You don’t get high, you don’t feel tired and it’s not addictive. But it’s bloody good stuff to deal with aches and pains.
foxy – look closer to home – in the midlands, a company called celadon pharmaceuticals has just been granted one of the UK’s first ever licences to grow THC cannabis, which will then be processed into oil and sold to 3rd parties for medical applications. The only other company to get one, was GW pharmaceuticals which was bought out by an american corporate years ago – they make sativex, which is a cannabis based medication for mulitple sclerosis, available on the NHS as a spray
UK is very much moving ahead, but quietly if you get my drift.
It is no longer legal to smoke it now in Amsterdam. So they are doing lots of baking!
0%THC products containing CBG and CBD. Totally legal and helping hundreds of Islanders including my Wife who has recently battled Cancer . That shop has been a godsend to many, and the owner should be proud of herself for having the bottle to ignore narrow-minded prejudice and ill-informed Island Cretins. The Police should raid and lock up the real drug dealers !! There’s enough of them !!
The Island would be much better off with its Police doing a REAL job and arresting REAL criminals . Absolutey f**king useless! waste of time, money and resources !! shame on You !!!
I do understand the oil and its uses, I do not however understand those that smoke a joint and say it for medical reasons… load of rubbish !! These are the people that ruin it for the people that need the oil…
If they are growing the plants with NO thc.. there will not really be a problem…but myself i doubt it… but that is my opinion.
No where in the article does it say arrests made. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?
To many ignorant people like to speculate.
With you 100%.. it’s naturally grown and can help in so many way.. hope your wife is well ..
Hahah What’s your name
It’s that stupid police officer he supplied the drugs to the shop
There’s a high rank cop on the mainland that has been known to bring it over to the I.o.w been doing it for years, also just past midnight you can smell it coming from St Mary’s hospital, if they have a raid then that’s where it ends up..most of the time…
Exactly. What a fuss over a bit of weed.Just legalise the stuff as in California and cut out the criminals.
and watch how many more are caught drug driving…just because it is legal to smoke , does not give you the right to smoke and drive… all these bad drivers over here, will make it more difficult for them to pass that law…
studies have shown the opposite, another incredible comment…
druggy island what a dump it’s getting Then it is Shanklin
Hate to break it to you but the only dump is your lack of education
Who and what? Most people live in properties.
Close them both down !
For what? Helping people in pain and helping them quit smoking? Educate yourself before you proceed to wreck yourself.
Let’s hope they close down for good. Too many use drugs and then drive causing accidents.
Close down for what?
Helping people cope with debilitating illnesses?
Nothing illegal going on. Please educate yourself.
I hope you choke on your comment when island echo update their news.
Agreed, couldn’t be more true
I have to laugh at all the thumbs down on my comment. Obviously uneducated imbeciles that don’t have a clue what it’s like to live with a debilitating illness and the benefits of what these businesses provide. People are quick to comment when no where does it say arrests were made.
Pubs could help you. Scotch is legal.
Good job, too much Cannabis is being smoked on the Island
it stinks and is very unsociable.
Heavy fines need to be issued.
You are so stupid . CBD helps people with pain and mental distress.
Smoking cannabis never gave me issues. At a party, ‘Who the f#ck is that cat looking at?’ Quad erat demonstrandun.
I’ll have a chat with Donna to stop this kind of thing permanently. Maybe another 100 police officers for the island might do it.
Why do counties need a ‘Donna’? A waste of money. I’d rather have the Chief of the local Cop Shop lead the force and money spent on a ‘Donna’ used to recruit non-woke Bobby on the beat.
Shanklin is getting like the Wild West. What is needs to deal with the drugs issue is a good Marshall.
You leave Freshwater out of this. We have a better class of people over here.
Oh Qwerty dear, ‘Wild West’ refers to the rough towns of past America. There is a world beyond the west side of the island. The world doesn’t end at Freshwater, and that line where the sea disappears, it’s a horizon, not a ledge. Lol
The owner of both shops is a well respected member of the local Shanklin community, providing local jobs and supporting the struggling local economy. She is also a much admired business woman who’s forged a honest living through sheer hard work and determination to succeed, a lesson we could all learn.
The question is, why would a dedicated family woman jeopardise her entire livelihood for the sake of a bit of ‘jolly green’? and besides, what exactly is ‘suspected cannabis’ ? It’s either is or it isn’t?
Couldn’t of said it better myself
Credit where credit is due, well done iow police you found hemp in a hemp shop.
Any chance of going after the A class drug dealers now?
This time is a warning, next time shut them down. Idiots.
Legalise it. Simple solution. End of life patients use it, MS sufferers use it, Parkinson sufferers use it, chronic pain can be alleviated by it not to mention hundreds of other legitimate users. Legalise it, make it safe for users to buy it from a trusted source, tax it and instead of it costing us millions, it’ll make millions.
Perhaps we should ask ourselves why do people turn to drugs and try and sort out the reasons they do end up getting hooked on them to have what they consider a life – when in fact it is a sure sign they have no life but rely on drugs to have what they think is a life, vicious circle that needs to be broken. The only drugs I used when young were ones to beat infection or pain.
what a world we are now..
