A driver has sustained serious injuries after crashing into a tree on the outskirts of Ryde during the early hours of yesterday morning (Saturday).
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the incident on Ashey Road, close to Smallbrook roundabout, at around 01:30.
Firefighters worked alongside paramedics to extricate the driver, who was later conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital with what has been described by Police as serious injuries.
Local contractors Groundsells were called in to remove the tree and the road remained closed until 06:00.

Actually, the police worked with ambulance on this. No firefighters were involved in extricating anyone. Well done Isle of Wight police.
Well done IoW Police – yeah really????
The same police who are powerless to stop the Vauxhall Corsa FE06 BFN from parking on the highway in North Road, Shanklin EVERY day and EVERY night. The car has NO insurance; NO tax; NO MOT and is not registered to the person who drives it.
Well done lashes girl. And well done Hampshire Police.
Oh and the same person driving it? Well that’ll be the girl who drove the Peugeot 206 earlier in the year who had over 20 tickets (all not enforced) and was tipped off.
Why the total inability or reluctance to deal with this repeat offended?????
Good job the driver wasn’t in a Corsa reg: FE06 BFN (uninsured; no tax; no MOT) or the police could gave stood down and let her off 100% as they do every day in North Road, Shanklin.
Do you pay insurance and MOT and Tax? Cos if your face fits then clearly you do not have to.
Oh, and do not ring 101 or they will spend the time cross-examining you as to how you think the woman isn’t insured,. Gawd forbid they actually chase the lawbreaker who can carry on regardless. AND still is on the road without tax; MOT or insurance.
Do try to not let the driver plough into you eh?
And people wonder why there is no respect for the law????????
Oh dear, I was just saying well done to the police who helped here. Sorry if it upset you as you’re obviously angry.
She may just be using her private motorized conveyance, ie not “driving” its a Freeman on the land thing. Not illegal if you can navigate the Law (Act of Parliament) correctly. You must be willing to go full Jippo to do it tho.
