A 63-year-old man from Cowes has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after he was stopped in Shanklin this afternoon (Friday).
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the area at around 13:45 following reports of a male in a Suzuki Vitara driving in a questionable manner.
After looking for the vehicle in question, Officers located the driver on High Street in the town and pulled the vehicle over.
At the scene, a 63-year-old man from Cowes was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Traffic in the area was heavy for a while whilst the vehicle was recovered.
He remains in custody at this time.
A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“Drink/Drug driving can kill, and we have been to incidents where people have died due to the intoxication of the driver.
