A 21-year-old Ryde woman is under investigation for drink driving after careering into a lamp post outside the hospital in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Police were alerted to reports of a road traffic collision on Medina Way, outside St Mary’s Hospital on the main Newport to Cowes road, at 03:51.
The vehicle had smashed into a lamp post at the side of the road, throwing debris across the carriageway.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 21-year-old woman from Ryde was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving.
She has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

People can make mistakes by going in to wrong lanes after all we are humans but it’s those people that won’t let you in that need be a bit more helpfu it only takes seconds it’s not that people need to be anywhere on that rock in 5 mins flat. Lots of angry people there

I just can’t understand what is happening, when drinking and driving was still within the law we didn’t have these car accidents night after night as we do now. I know people frown on it now but we use to go out get plastered and get home safely.

As she was 21 she got taken to the cop shop! The other two just got taken home! What is wrong with everyone? Tve root cause if all these drunk or otherwise drivers should be investigated. There’s too much of it! Innocent bystanders are going to get killed that’s the issue here, come on people!!!
