A crash on a notorious crossroad junction on the outskirts of Newport is causing significant traffic delays on the main diversion route between Newport and Cowes this afternoon (Wednesday).
Emergency service crews are on scene on Forest Road at the junction with Whitehouse Road, having been called at around 14:45.
Police, Fire and Paramedics are dealing with the collision which Island Echo understands involves 3 vehicles.
No serious injuries are thought to have been sustained.
Southern Vectis Route 7 buses are currently delayed by around 15 minutes.
There are significant delays in all directions.
UPDATE @ 16:11 – Significant delays continue, although traffic is now starting to move following recovery of the vehicles invovled.

Last time horsebrige hill was one way, that crossroads had traffic lights controlling the flow. Why not this time?
Island roads have none left to put out as they have peppered the island to stop freedom of movement
Even closed usable road to boost their egos
They are getting ready for the 2030 agenda!
Spot on
They should open up horsebridge hill on the traffic lights for couple of hours to clear back traffic.
Stop and Go would help.
It doesn’t cost a lot to get a couple of
island roads operatives to do some work
for a change and sort out the mess they have created.
Majority of them spend all day sitting in their trucks
smoking, eating and texting.
Lol
as nice as that may sound, can you imagine the confusion it would cause…..
drivers have enough hassle with understanding all the:
one-way systems,
road closures,.
(additional road closures, just because Island Roads are trying to make everyone’s life as difficult as possible,)
diversions, (someimes ambiguously signposted),
and temporary traffic lights
Imagine of they changed if, just for a couple of hours !!
Agree.
[…] DIVERSION ROUTE CRASH CAUSING MAJOR AFTERNOON DELAYS […]
brake pedals
to island vehicles.
Before the usual numpties get their knickers in a twist
I have no idea what happened but I am just stating what
goes on, on a daily basis on island Roads.
I want to see speed cameras on the island,
heavy fines and points on ones licence slows
numpties down!.
I don’t nor does any one else ones we had didn’t work for years then ripped them out..just the pricks in vans now.
What those pricks in vans who deliver food, carry carpenter’s, plumber’s, electrician’s, mechanic’s etc tools?
Fool
Why no flood lights to light the area up its wet raining bloody dark would give all a better view of the area.absolute crap junction.
