The main road connecting Nettlestone and St Helens has been closed again today (Thursday) after yet another issue involving the local water supply network.
Eddington Road – used by the majority of those in the East Wight – has been closed today to allow Southern Water to carry out emergency repairs.
This isn’t the first time that the road has had to be closed following incidents in June 2023 and August 2022. There have also been issues on the nearby Nettlestone Green where the road was blocked whilst repairs were undertaken back in August 2022.
The road is currently closed between Caws Avenue and Kerry Fields.
It is hoped that the issue can be fixed within the next 5 days or sooner, however, residents are worried that the recurring fault means that a longer closure may well be needed to finally address the complex issue.
If that is the case, the closure will affect those heading to the Nettlestone and Seaview Summer Fete this weekend.
As a a result of the closure anyone attempting to go between Nettlestone and St Helens will have to divert via Ryde for the time being.
UPDATE ON FRIDAY – Overnight works have been completed and the road has since reopened.
Simply await the thousands of extra houses to be built in Ryde.
The houses will all have nice new pipes, BUT the water main FEEDING such will be old and to cope with the massive extra demand, the Water Companies HAVE to increase the pressure, this even more bursts for the rest of us all, AND higher bills to pay for such.

Replace the whole pipeline rather than bodging it up every time as the pipe will continue to burst at its weakest point or will it cost a bit more to do and not leave quite as much money for Southern Waters shareholders.
Shoddy workmanship carried out previously is the answer
You try to repair a pipe that’s been there for years see how you get on the pipe needs replacement but then your moan about that it will take months
Hope no one moans about your work you try and fix old pipes would like to renew but not allowed
Instead of keep repairing the old pipe why not renew the whole infrastructure
