The driver of a Jaguar that hit a tree and rolled several times on Whiterails Road near Wootton yesterday (Friday) has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs.
It was just before 15:30 that emergency services were alerted to reports that a Jaguar XF had overturned and come to rest on its roof on Whiterails Road/Staplers Road, a busy stretch between Newport and Wootton.
Police, paramedics and firefighters arrived on scene to find the luxury car on its roof with 2 wheels ripped clean off the vehicle, as previously reported by Island Echo.
4 people were travelling in the Jag at the time of the collision with 2 women – a 17-year-old and a 35-year-old – rushed to St Mary’s Hospital. They have since been transferred to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
Police have confirmed this morning that a 29-year-old man from Wootton has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. He is currently in hospital being treated for injuries he sustained in the crash.
Investigations into the serious collision are underway, with questions being asked as to whether a space saver wheel fitted to the vehicle played any part in the crash.
Anyone with information, or dashcam footage, that could help the investigation is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting reference 44230117605. This includes anyone who saw the Jaguar in the moments before the single vehicle crash.
The road reopened shortly before 21:30 last night.

I think the passengers are muppets for getting in a vehicle with a drugged driver, all of them scum now tying up valuable emergency services. Scars will be a good reminder of what wucking fankers they all are.
Space saver tyres are for emergency only & to use on way to garage to get your punctured tyre repaired. Also your not supposed to go over 50mph with them.
This was an accident that could’ve been avoided if the tyre was used for what it’s fit for. Put drugs in the mix & it’s pure chance that nobody was killed. Irresponsible & selfish driver. Hope the pasengers will be OK.

Space saver spares are unsafe if car fully loaded,they often are not inflated properly and small amount of tread,like earlier comment they are only to get you safely off eg motorway, home or garage, not to drive around with for a week . Think they all been lucky, could of died or killed other road users or pedestrians even.

This is a perfect example of personal responsibility, they took a risk and were punished by it. The rest of us shouldn’t be punished because of it. I always thought if one fitted a space saving wheel, were not supposed to carry passengers, but to take car asap to get tyre repaired or replaced… and to do no more than 30 mph… !!!
Was the space saver tyre on the front then ?? Most dangerous thing to do… if front wheel drive and front tyre needs replacing , one needs to remove rear wheel same side and place on front, and use spare saver on rear… only use on front, if rear wheel drive if has LTD axle.. then drive slowly to a garage..
