A dangerous overtake on a busy main road between Brading and Newport has been captured on the dashcam of an Isle of Wight driver.
An Island man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was driving along the Downs Road in the direction of Newport late this afternoon (Friday) when he was forced to harshly apply his brakes as a fellow motorist performed a dangerous overtaking manoeuver in front of him.
In the footage captured by the driver’s onboard dashcam, a silver Ford Fiesta ST is seen to overtake at what appears to be significant speed, before applying its brakes heavily to narrowly miss an oncoming vehicle.
The sporty Fiesta is then seen to accelerate rapidly and continue its journey towards Newport at what appears to be well above the speed limit.
Island Echo has approached Hampshire Constabulary for a statement regarding the incident.

An everyday occurrence for cyclists.
Come on DE Bikes dont go that fast
Hopefully they should be getting a knock on the door this morning from the boys in blue.
No chance whatsoever. Unless the driver is identifiable (which in this clip he/she isnt) then the police are unable/unwilling to do anything. Dont ask me how I know.
Same thing happened to me on Wednesday while taking mum for her jab.
The dash cam must have picked up the cars registration number, well hopefully. There you go traffic police.
The scary thing is, I often have to brake because of stupid drivers overtaking where its not safe to do so.
Worthy of a disqualification in my opinion, what an absolute idiot.
This type of manoeuvre happens all the time with idiot drivers in their done up cars thinking they own the road. Far too many of them on the roads now and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not declaring modifications to insurance companies that’s if they’re insured at all. They’re just extremely lucky there hasn’t been more accidents.
Complete dangerous boy racer idiot, hope he ends up getting what he deserves, putting peoples lives at risk, what if Children were in the car, absolute disgrace!
A complete and blatant disregard for others safety and lives.
Hampshire constabulary have a link on their website to upload unedited dashcam footage showing things like this which can and will be used to prosecute offenders.
This is an every day occurrence, the standard of driving amongst an element of the population of The Island is totally unacceptable and you cant just blame the young, there is no respect for anyone be it pedestrians other road users or people living near roads. 95% of the time they get away with it.
The small minority of accidents/near misses reported on the Echo is just the very tip of the iceberg.
Pity they can’t crash into a wall only hurting themselves rather than endangering other innocent drivers lives.Probably drugged drunk no mot tax insurance and will only get a tap on the wrist or nothing at all will happen about it until they kill someone
May be best to track him and show him the danger of what he did to you. The police aren’t bothered about near misses and courts rarely bother when minor accidents happen, no matter how caused.
Talk to him it might work
What planet are you on? Even if the driver could trace him you can just imagine what someone who drives like that will say to him!
