A road traffic incident on one of the main routes to the West Wight has caused major diversions for motorists this afternoon (Monday).
The incident occurred shortly after 15:30 on Calbourne Road just past Rowridge Lane – forcing the B3401 to be closed between Carisbrooke and Calbourne.
It has seen 1 vehicle leave the road and crash into a field on the busy road – leaving the driver receiving medical assistance from on-scene paramedics.
Multiple police vehicles, 2 fire appliances from Newport as well as ambulance crew have all been mobilised to the scene.
The road has been closed at the top of Carisbrooke High Street along the B3401 until Gustars Shute at its junction with Newport Road and Lynch Lane.
Southern Vectis Route 7 buses are diverting along Forest Road for the time being.

Hidden speed cameras on every major road and ban speeding motorists and jail those who drive but are banned for three years.
Then accidents here wii drop
Hidden speed cameras.. the council have removed most existing speed cameras. That ain’t gonna happen.
Odd that people don’t want hidden cameras, but call for ‘something’ to be done, or dimly expect the young who love speeding to suddenly become placid.
Seems too many must be breaking the speed limit or what’s not to like from cheap hidden cameras?
Speed restrictor fitted to all cars
I’ve read this story twice and cannot see the part mentioning that this was caused by speed.
Whilst it’s a possibility… Maybe the magic 8 ball can give another?
It’s never ending, more and more idiots will be along soon….
Not an idiot do not comment till you get your facts right.
Then, WHY DONT YOU GIVE US THE FACTS THEN,???
It’s a private medical issue.
What, another one. 2nd accident in the same place in 24 hrs. It’s getting worse. What’s wrong with………not gonna finish the sentence. All I’m going to say is, speeding.
Not a speed issue, do not comment until you have got your facts right. I have just arranged for the car to be recovered and talked to the lady involved.
Sun in eyes again? Big gloves?
More bad driving on the IW
I blame the Audi driver
I blame the van driver…and the Ford driver…
I blame all women drivers. (or just women, in general).
Chauvinism is outdated and should be seen as racist
Who says, you ?
THIS IS SPARTA !
Could some of these accidents be the result of the rubbish road surface that we are now using, the surface is now wearing and the adhesion in parts is nonexistent. Island Roads have just recently announced that they are laying skid resistant surface to many parts of the road network, we didn’t use to have this until recent times.
The road surface on the island is laid with tarmac whereas on the mainland most of the main roads are of asphalt which has a much better skid and wear resistance than tarmac, we have been sold down the drain with the PFI like many other things, we are only second best!!!!!
Then why don’t many hundreds of motorists have issues. Anyways something wrong never the driver.
Many drivers stick to the speed limit even when there is a car/van behind you trying to intimidate you to go faster. When you refuse to go faster, they then take chances via over taking, some knowing there is a car comming the other way. I see this often on our roads.
You simply can’t educate these idiots, they are here to stay…
Driving has become so unpleasant on the island it’s so cut throat. Everyone is so stressed and angry you wouldn’t push someone over in a supermarket because they are in your way so tailgaters please back off. Not many good drivers remain out there. Why do so many cars bully and chase people off the road literally. If you want to drive like your on a motorway move to the mainland.
Someone once busted a gut to pass me coming out of Yarmouth. When I got to St. Mary’s I was two cars behind him.
So what was it, a boy or a girl ?
