A new Assistant Principal has been appointed at Cowes Enterprise College with specific responsibility to take on the leadership of Post-16 provision at the Academy.
Stuart Butler, currently Head of Teaching and Learning Improvement at the Isle of Wight College, will join the Academy in the Summer. Stuart, as well as playing an important part in sustaining high standards of teaching at the Isle of Wight College, is also a very respected teacher of engineering, economics, business and mathematics.
Stuart is able to draw on extensive experience in manufacturing and as a former company director to enrich his teaching and his approach to life. Despite taking a big cut in earnings some time ago to move into teaching, he has no regrets:
“I love what I do now. Being able to work with young people and staff, to see their improvement and development is a real privilege. I am really looking forward to working at Cowes and helping to build on the existing quality of teaching, to ensure the very best A-level provision on the Island.”
Principal John Peckham said:
“We are absolutely delighted to have been able to recruit someone of Stuart’s calibre and experience to our vacant Assistant Principal post. His appointment underlines our long-term commitment to developing the highest quality Post-16 provision in the area. Being able to employ staff from the closing sixth form at the Isle of Wight College also means that the high-quality work undertaken there over the last few years is not lost to the Island”.
Stuart is planning to move to the Academy as soon as his classes at the Isle of Wight College have completed their examinations. He will build on the work of long-serving head of sixth form at Cowes Enterprise College, David Reynolds, who is planning to retire at the end of this year.
The sixth form at Cowes Enterprise College is now growing fast and offers a range of over 20 A-level and vocational subjects. Many students undertake a combination of A-level and vocational study, and all are well-prepared to move on to work, further or higher education.
On Wednesday 2nd March 2016, between 19:00 and 20:30, CEC will be holding an Information Evening to give parents and students a chance to meet Stuart and hear a little more about the planning for the Sixth Form in 2016-17.
