Data has revealed that the Isle Of Wight Council has collected £1,146,075 from residential parking permits since 2020.
The figures, that have been obtained through a Freedom of Information (FOI) request by cinch, also show that the number of residential parking permits issued on the Isle of Wight has grown by 61% in 5 years, from 1,584 in 2020 to 2,546 in 2024.
The biggest spike in demand occurred between 2020 and 2021, when issued permits jumped by 38%.
Here’s how much Isle of Wight Council has generated from parking permits over the last 5 years:
- 2020: £123,031
- 2021: £226,501 (+84%)
- 2022: £240,888 (+6%)
- 2023: £262,928 (+9%)
- 2024: £292,726 (+11%)
An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson has said:
“The spike observed between 2020 and 2021 is due to a significant extension to the Residents Parking Scheme in Newport rather than cost. The proposed extension was voted on by residents and would not have progressed without their support.
“The on-street residents’ permit prices have not increased since 2020, whilst an off-street residents’ permit has increased by £39.80 since October 2020.”
Wouldn’t even cover the cost of a block of toilets.
Not even enough to cover Jordan’s pension pot.
Should roll out permit parking islandwide,
that would generate millions of pounds and
also get the clutter of vehicles that are left dumped
along island roads and streets off our roads.
It would be easy to identify abandoned vehicles.
