Isle of Wight singer-songwriter Corrine Atkins recently released her emotional new single ‘Voodoo Doll’ – a heartfelt track inspired by her younger sister’s battle with a rare lung condition.
The song was written during a particularly difficult time in Corrine’s life as her sister, Gabrielle, faced repeated hospital stays due to Bronchial Atresia – a condition that was misdiagnosed from birth until 2022. After 3 years of uncertainty and pain, Gabrielle underwent surgery earlier this year.
Corrine describes the single as a raw expression of the emotions she felt while watching her sister fight through the healthcare system – a mix of frustration, helplessness and deep love. That emotional became the fuel for ‘Voodoo Doll’.
Gabrielle Atkins has said:
“Corrine called me whilst I was in hospital and poured her heart out through this song; it moved me to tears, echoing the raw pain and hope embedded in every note.
“This song is not just a melody; it is a testament to resilience and love, deeply meaningful to me, and I hope it touches everyone who listens. I am incredibly proud to call her my sister.”
Corrine, known for her calming acoustic sound and soulful lyrics, continues to draw inspiration from her personal experiences. Her music often reflects themes of love, struggle and strength, which she hopes will resonate with others facing similar situations.
The single was produced by Side House Recordings, with contributions from Craig Egerton-Read on electric guitar and bass, and Keziah Brown on violin.
‘Voodoo Doll’ is now available on all major streaming platforms. Corrine has also released new merchandise on her website and plans to launch a physical CD soon.
