Police have cordoned off a road in the centre of Newport following a late night incident outside the Travelodge hotel.
Lugley Street has been closed between Post Office Lane and Mill Street this morning (Friday) with an inner cordon directly outside the front doors of the busy chain hotel.
Officers are standing guard at either end as investigations get underway following an incident which has left staff shaken. Witness statements are being collated.
What appears to be takeaway wrappers can be seen spewn across the carriageway but there are no obvious signs of any damage or injury.
It’s thought that the situation began at around 23:00.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement with a statement expected later on this morning.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have confirmed that a man in his 20s sustained a head injury following an assault.
