A crime scene cordon has been established and 2 arrests have been made after a woman was found with injuries inside a shop on Ryde’s Union Street during the early hours of this morning (Saturday).
Emergency services were called to the town centre sometime around 03:00 after reports of an ‘altercation’, which led to the front door of ‘Beachcomber’ being smashed in and damage caused inside.
It’s on the shop floor that a woman was found with injuries leading to her being taken to St Mary’s Hospital by paramedics.
It’s suspected that 1 of the 3 individuals was thrown through the glass door during the fight.
A smashed glass bottle can be seen on the floor outside the shop and within the cordoned off area this morning.
Island Echo understands 2 arrests have been made with the suspects also taken to hospital for treatment, where all 3 people remain this morning.
A cordon is in place around Beachcomber as Police continue their investigations.
Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for a statement.

Let me guess released without any charges she chucked herself through the window
It’s Ryde what do you expect
So your xxxx don’t stink!? Where are you from? Ryde is a lovely town, not everyone is a low life!! 🙁
TWAT
More pi**ed t*ats will be along soon.
We were told yesterday that only “life threatening” injuries we’re being delt with at the hospital… I doubt all 3 have “life threatening” injuries…
This is a very sad reflection on the increasingly violent world we live in.
The person who initiated this has left 3 people needing already overstretched hospital treatment , a shop owner with the hassle and cost of a smashed door.
Alcohol and drugs play a big part in most acts of violence and it is time that more was done to make those guilty of violent crime face more serious penalties, including repaying the full cost of the emergency services and victim compensation.
Tax payers are fed up of footing these bills.
Let’s not forget that the shop keeper/owner could be held responsible for the injuries to the Woman as the glass in the door appears to Not be Safety Glass, the owner of the Kebab shop in Newport was fined £1,300 following superman’s attempt at entry via the window
What you say is a fact, but I would hope common sense prevails as this incident was caused by yobbish criminals and not by the shop owner.
He / she will need to make sure that safety glass is put in this time round. I had a similar case years ago, then the safety glass was fitted after the incident , but because of its high cost then the shop insurance went up , again the result of the actions of criminal yob, whom was never caught.
Our criminal yobs cost the rest of us out of all proportion to remedy their actions, they bear no consequences of their stupidity. The law needs to hit them MUCH MUCH harder.
Ryde the best place to bring your family!
It’s the greed of developers, who have close links with an obliging Council who are willing to accept families from the mainland for payment to then house here.
Clearly the mainland councils will be glad to send down their homeless, who despite the wails of protest on here, are often homeless for a good reason, and that can be drugs, violence and mental health issues, which then become OUR problem, not theirs.
For top Councillors live well away from the trash they force upon us all and always will.
Their children have private education and health care, so they due to more homes with central Gov paying the c.tax only gain from it
Let’s put ghe brake on these huge hideous housing developments.
Infills and conversions should get priority, followed by small developments of 10 or less.
Huge developments have no place on an Island with very limited infrastructure support and inadequate health provision.
Rich developers care nothing about the lot of the average resident.
They use their huge profits to distance themselves from the harsh realities of life for normal hard working people
The super rich benefit no one ..
Extremely well said. Agree with you 100%
If the council allow 100s of new homes to be built, the island will be ruined forever.
Influx of dregs from the mainland relocated to the IOW because they’ve caused so much trouble in every location, nobody wants them, so the IOW Council take them for money.
You will find. That most crime is committed by home grown scum.See courts results
Not yours obviously thank you very much! Not welcome
Why not get together and sort it out be a island stand together fight back when you go back years it was never like it is now you know you don’t have the police any more so do it yourself
Not quite sure what you’re on about. Ryde is and always has been a party town. The town and Island council promote it as a party town. That means people from the mainland come to drink themselves silly and have a good time at whatever event it is. And you will always have idiots who behave badly. Drugs are rife too.
Thing is councils like Ryde think they can have it both ways. Be nice family friendly place and lovely place for retirees. But the dark side is slowly absorbing more and more.
St Marys really needed this !!!!! Send them across the road.
well it was Ryde that a dump it is
Say that again?
Not sure you should comment on what’s a dump.
Your a dump mate
Better in Ryde than most places on Island, and certainly much better than that pit hole Newport…
Completely baffles me when I read comments that suggest any wrong doing here on the island is done by “low life ” scum” from the mainland!! pmsl you really think the island is full of decent folk lol Many if not all these idiots are born and bred here. Ahahah you’re all deluded.
Can’t be mainland people coming for a night out – the last cat/hovercraft is about 8.30pm. It wouldn’t be much of a night out for them having to return that early!
Yes, quite ridiculous really. We should be able to to go and from the mainland at any time. It’s more than just an inconvenience, I would go as far as to say it’s a human rights issue.
Totally agree, build a TUNNEL so Islanders can have the right to travel anytime…
Yes and for so many reasons. Having a place where young move off and old move to is not sustainable.
Unknown what reason they give now for the CCTV in Ryde not manned… could have had the Police etc. there before the damage was done.. !!
All over a girl no doubt . Idiots .
