Over £6,500 has been raised by officers from Hampshire Constabulary after they braved the public in an unusual way.
Dressed in full uniform and riot gear, volunteer Police officers allowed members of the public to throw eggs at them all in aid of raising funds for 13-year-old Joe Ellis, who has been sadly diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called mediastinal large B cell lymphoma.
Set up outside the Isle of Wight Festival, revellers were invited to pay £2.00 a time to throw eggs at the brave coppers who ended up covered head to toe in raw eggs, but all in aid of the worthwhile charity appeal.
Despite various treatments of the normal chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Joe has not entered remission and now his family need to raise £100,000 for special treatment from the United States. Southampton Hospital will pay for the first three treatments, however the following 13 treatments need to be self funded should the family’s application to the United Kingdom panel is not successful.
To date, an amazing £28,000 has been raised since the launch of the appeal earlier this month.
