A road traffic collision on the outskirts of Newport is causing delays for those heading into the town this morning (Thursday).
The incident, reported to involve at least 2 cars, has occurred on Long Lane near the junction with Buckbury Lane.
Emergency services have been alerted.
Traffic is heavy in the area this rush hour with motorists having to give and take past the scene of the crash. Drivers are advised to avoid the area, diverting via Staplers Road or Blackwater if possible.
Southern Vectis say their Route 8 buses will be diverting via Staplers Road and Briddlesford Road until further notice.
UPDATE @ 08:10 – It has been confirmed that a total of 4 vehicles have been involved in this morning’s collision, but no one has been trapped or seriously injured.
1 fire appliance from Newport was mobilised to the scene at 07:49 in the interests of safety. The wholetime crew have now stood down from the incident, handing over to Police and ambulance colleagues.
UPDATE @ 09:14 – Long Lane has now been cleared and the road is once again open in both directions.
Southern Vectis Route 8 buses are resuming a normal route.

It happened on Long Lane near the junction of Buckberry Lane. Only one junction onto Long Lane from Buckberry Lane.

Erm… last time I looked Jim, there were two junctions between Long Lane & Buckberry Lane
(one about 50 yards up from Pan roundabout & one just before & opposite where Pecks are)
Err – the road signs spell it: “Buckbury Lane”.

What an awful thing to say, shame on you! It’s an accident, no-one is the perfect driver, every single one of us has made a mistake whilst driving & luckily/ hopefully got away with it with no serious impact on anyone.
