A report by Her Majesty’s inspectors of schools, Ofsted, has found that Carisbrooke College is making reasonable progress to move out of special measures.
In an inspection at the end of March, the third such inspection since the school was placed into special measures a year ago, Ofsted found that the college has an effective and cohesive senior team and that teaching continues to improve.
It has been ruled that the management may now employ Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) ahead of the next monitoring report, a big step forward for the recovering school.
The detailed report, which can be found here, highlights further improvements that can be made including improving students’ behaviour and safety by ensuring that teachers and other adults supervise students effectively and are responsible for them at all times and ensuring that teachers and other adults do not ignore any poor or unsafe behaviour outside of lessons and take appropriate action to deal with it.
It also states how the Island Innovation Trust run school can improve leadership, management and governance by providing high-quality training and support that enable teachers to improve their teaching and to plan effective lessons matched to students’ ages and abilities.
Carisbrooke College was placed into special measures back in April 2013.
