UPDATED: Coastguard Rescue Teams and Police are this evening (Friday) in attendance at Culver Cliff near Sandown.
Initial reports indicate 5 Police units are in attendance alongside several Coastguard teams.
UPDATE @ 20:20 – Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor are tonight working at the end of Culver Down alongside Police amid fears a person has gone over the cliff edge.
Emergency services have gathered in the most easterly car park and are working to establish if anybody has in fact gone over the safety fencing in place and fallen to the sea below.
A land search of the immediate area is also underway.
UPDATE @ 20:55 – Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat have been tasked to assist in the incident and are currently on scene off of Culver.
It is understood a vehicle was discovered in a nearby car park earlier this evening, sparking concern.
UPDATE @ 22:20 – It has been confirmed that a body has sadly been discovered at the foot of Culver Cliff this evening.
Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat has launched to assist in the retrieval of the body, that is believed to be of a male.
It it is expected that the unidentified body will be brought ashore at Bembridge RNLI station shortly.
UPDATE @ 00:49 SATURDAY – Island Echo understand the deceased male is a local business owner.
The body was bought ashore at Bembridge RNLI’s lifeboat station and transferred to an awaiting private ambulance.
UPDATE SUNDAY @ 12:25 – The identity of the body found at the foot of Culver Cliff on Friday has been confirmed by the family of the deceased today as Piyanchai Chainiyom ‘Pc’, the proprietor of Ryde Thai in Union Street, Ryde.
