HM Coastguard and Bembridge RNLI have been mobilised to reports of an individual in trouble at the base of Culver cliff near Sandown this afternoon (Monday).
Bembridge CRT are on scene at Yaverland car park, whilst Bembridge Inshore Lifeboat conducts a sweep of the rocky terrain from the seaward side.
UPDATE @ 15:35 – The incident has been deemed a false alarm with good intent.
A shadowy rock formation had been mistaken for an individual by a member of the public, who dialled 999 and alerted Solent Coastguard.
All rescue resources have now stood down.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.
