Police, HM Coastguard and Bembridge RNLI were all involved in the search for a vulnerable missing person in Binstead late yesterday afternoon (Monday).
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary were deployed to the vicinity of Holy Cross Church and Players Beach at around 16:00, with assistance requested from HM Coastguard due to the coastal nature of the area.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked and the assistance of Bembridge RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat was soon requested.
It was at around 16:20 that the lifeboat launched and made best speed in choppy Force 5 conditions towards Binstead.
However, the lifeboat had just rounded the coast at Seaview when word came through that the person had been located.
All search and rescue teams were stood down by 16:45.
Upon returning to the offshore boathouse, it was decided that it was too rough to recover Bembridge Lifeboat so she headed to Portsmouth to wait for the tide to turn. She was successfully recovered at 19:30.
