Firefighters are reminding households across the Island to ensure electrical items are in good working condition following a Christmas tree fire at a property in Thorness this evening (Sunday).
2 appliances from Newport were mobilised to reports of a property fire at Thorness Bay at 18:37.
Crews swiftly arrived on scene and firefighters donned in breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire, which involved a Christmas tree.
According to Blue Watch, it is thought that the lights on the tree started the small fire.
Positive pressure ventilation was used to rid smoke from the property.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has now stood down from the incident.
