Motorcyclists from across the Isle of Wight are once again set to bring festive cheer to children spending Christmas in hospital, with the return of the much-loved Christmas Toy Run this Sunday (21st December).
Each year, the bikers gather at Ritchie’s Diner in Lake dressed in Christmas costumes, with their motorcycles decorated in festive style. From there, the group rides in convoy to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport to deliver toys to children on the hospital’s children’s ward.
This year, riders are urged to meet at Ritchies at 12:00.
The annual event aims to brighten the day for young patients who are unable to spend the holiday season at home.
Organiser Buster Spicer has said:
“We dress ourselves up and we dress our bikes too.
“We then all ride up to St Mary’s Children’s ward to drop off Christmas presents for the poor unfortunate children that will be stuck in hospital over the Christmas period.”
Last year’s ride saw 208 bikes take part, with hopes high for another strong turnout this year. The event is known for its fun, colourful atmosphere and generous community spirit.
