Residents and staff at Vecta House Care Home in Newport have kicked off the festive season in style with a packed schedule of Christmas celebrations.
The home has been transformed into a hub of holiday cheer, with events designed to ensure every resident experiences the magic of Christmas.
Music has played a key role in the celebrations, with residents joining a national virtual sing-along alongside sister homes across the UK. Festive headwear and bells accompanied renditions of classics such as “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”.
Live performances followed, including a lively concert by Si Wheeler, a soul-stirring set from Vectis Brass, and a visit from the children’s choir TrebleMakers IOW. The choir also hand-delivered personalised cards and gifts, visiting residents in their rooms so no one missed out.
A highlight for many was a Christmas Lights Tour, made possible by Andy and Hamilton & Marshall Funeral Directors, who treated residents to a limousine tour of the Isle of Wight’s best festive light displays, complete with mulled wine.
Support also came from the wider community. Local group Towrags and Trikes delivered festive mince pies, while Embracing Age Isle of Wight spread joy through their Christmas Gift Project and “Cards of Joyfulness”.
The care home marked Elf Day by transforming into “Santa’s Workshop”, with live music from Double Take and festive costumes worn by staff and residents alike.
Residents also enjoyed a seasonal outing to Busy Bees Garden Centre to admire the decorations, followed by hot chocolate and mince pies in the café. Back at Vecta House, residents crafted handmade Christmas cards to send to loved ones.
The festivities peaked with a return visit from Ann and her Dance-Vibez team, who delivered a high-energy performance that had residents, staff and guests up on their feet dancing and singing along.
