UPDATED: A 70-year-old man from Chale is due to appear in court later today (Tuesday) accused of causing the death of 21-year-old Reese Mitchell by careless/inconsiderate driving.
David Napper of Appleford Road, Chale will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in Newport after being charged with causing the death of the young Islander by driving his Jeep Cherokee ‘without due care and attention’.
Reese, a motorcyclist from Brading, was travelling north on Military Road, Atherfield on 4th October last year when it is said he was involved in a collision with Mr Napper’s vehicle. Tragically the much-loved lad, who worked as a scaffolder, was pronounced dead at the scene.
At the time of the incident Mr Napper was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, however is now facing the lesser charge of causing death by careless/inconsiderate driving following a lengthy Police investigation.
David Napper is expected to enter a plea this afternoon.
UPDATE @ 16:15 – Mr David Napper did not enter a plea at today’s hearing. He will now return to the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on 12th April.
