A local charity CEO has practiced what he preaches by climbing to the top of a 100ft yacht mast to launch a spectacular fundraising challenge set to happen during this year’s Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.
BossUpAMast will run from Sunday 3rd to Tuesday 5th August when one of UKSA’s ocean-going Farr 65s will be moored in Cowes Yacht Haven after each day’s racing at the internationally famous regatta. Senior executives will be locked into a Spinlock Mast-Pro harness 100ft up and can only come down once they’ve taken a selfie and urged their contacts to pledge donations to UKSA.
Richard Thornton, CEO of Cowes-based maritime youth charity UKSA explains:
“One of our key aims as official charity will be to raise enough funds (£35,000) to offer every Year 6 primary school child on the island the opportunity to get on the water with UKSA. That’s some 1,600 children we would love to get afloat. It’s often an exciting yet challenging time for pupils, on the cusp of transition from primary to secondary school – and the confidence gained by new experiences such as those provided by UKSA can be really helpful.”
