Pupils at Brighstone C of E Primary School recently stepped into the world of work, when professionals from a wide range of industries joined the school’s Careers Day to help raise aspirations and broaden horizons.
Guest speakers from sectors including healthcare, emergency services, architecture, hospitality, environmental conservation, retail, sports science, marine services and public relations visited the school to share their experiences and answer pupils’ questions about their careers.
Throughout the day, pupils had the opportunity to learn first-hand about the realities of different jobs and the many pathways available to them in the future, taking part in fun activities and exercises designed to give students a greater understanding of the skills, knowledge and opportunities associated with different careers.
Headteacher Rebecca Lennon said:
“At Brighstone CE Primary School, we are not simply delivering a curriculum; we are helping to shape the future artists, doctors, architects and engineers of tomorrow. Our Careers Day is about embedding ambition and aspiration into everyday school life.
We want our children to understand that what they learn in the classroom today can open doors to exciting opportunities in the future.”
Guest speaker Anna Price, a public relations specialist from Isle of Wight communications company – Robertson Foster, said:
“It was a privilege to be part of such an inspiring day. The children were engaged, enthusiastic and full of thoughtful questions.
Events like this help young people see the wide variety of opportunities available to them and encourage them to dream big about their futures.”
Adding to the excitement, children were invited to come to school dressed as the career they would like to pursue when they grow up. The school was filled with aspiring firefighters, farmers, doctors, teachers, police officers, scientists, explorers and veterinarians, creating a vibrant celebration of future ambitions.
One pupil said:
“I really enjoyed Careers Day because we got to meet lots of different people and learn about jobs I had never heard of before.
I was especially inspired by the marine pilot because I didn’t know that job existed. It made me realise there are so many different careers I could choose from when I’m older.”
The school hopes the event will encourage pupils to continue exploring their interests, develop confidence in their abilities and understand that the skills they are learning today can help them achieve their ambitions tomorrow.
Brighstone C of E Primary School would like to thank all the volunteers who generously gave their time to support the event and inspire the next generation.

Let’s hope by the time these children are seeking careers
there is employment available.
With things moving so rapidly with A.I
driverless vehicles coming, more and more stores are
switching to self service checkouts etc etc
it’s going to be tough.
The retirement age keeps increasing and more and more
jobs are disappearing.
How long before the country introduces a universal basic
income.
