Paramedics are treating the driver of a car for injuries sustained in a crash in Sandown tonight (Friday), in which a vehicle has collided into a tree.
The collision has occurred on Avenue Road, outside The Tap pub.
Island Echo is told that at 20:35 the vehicle veered to the left and into the tree positioned at the side of the carriageway.
Police have closed the road in both directions and have established a cordon.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are treating the driver – understood to be an elderly female – for her injuries.
The incident has occurred just 100 metres away from a 2nd, more serious road traffic collision on Culver Parade.
It’s unclear at this early stage if the 2 incidents are connected – but the cordons around both suggest there may be a connection.
Hampshire Constabulary has been approached for a statement, with updates expected on Saturday morning.

Trees been there for years, more bad IW driving
“Letting you know” will be along soon
I hope the tree survives….
Wake up,sunshine
Another crash NOT caused by speed?
Probably on the phone, don’t need to be going fast to hit a tree when you’re on the phone. Damage does not look to be that bad, I doubt they were speeding. Drunk and on phone is my bet.
It’s about time all driving islanders take a re-test, most drivers on the Island are useless
when they approach a roundabout many are clueless!
You have to have taken a test in the first place to be able to take a re-test. Driving without a licence or on a provisional is rife on the island.
