Southern Water says they will likely need to release sewage into the River Medina as a result of a burst sewer main at Newport Quay.
It’s said that a sewer has failed near to the Premier Inn at Seaclose Park on the eastern side of the river.
A clean-up operation is underway and specialist teams are working around the clock to repair the main.
Dynorod is currently digging a hole in the corner of the Beefeater car park to access the failed pipe.
However, to protect local businesses and other properties from flooding, Southern Water says it is likely they will need to temporarily use a combined emergency overflow at Newport Quay. The length of any release will be minimised by the use of Southern Water tankers, which are constantly going to and from the Quay.
A spokesperson for Southern Water has said:
“We understand the disruption this incident may cause residents and businesses in the area and are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as we can”.
UPDATE WEDNESDAY – Southern Water has confirmed that repairs to the broken sewer have been completed.
A spokesperson has said:
“We’re sorry for the noise and disruption caused by the tankers we used to manage flows protecting the environment and preventing further flooding. These have now been stood down”.

County hall harbour revamp ?? Why !!they do not have ownership of the quay they have tried in the past and had to do a back down .
I blame the fibre company, and you know who I’m referring too…..
