Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised 3 appliances to the West Wight earlier this afternoon (Thursday) as a result of burnt food left in the oven.
Crews from Newport, Ryde and Shanklin were sent to the scene at Monks Lane in Freshwater following reports of a fire in a flat at around 14:00.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the alarm was caused by burnt foodstuff in the oven.
Firefighters used positive pressure ventilation to rid the property of smoke.
The occupant was uninjured and all appliances were stood down at 14:25.

Too much chilli i expect….
Too much pot I say
What?? Three fire engines including from Ryde and Shanklin all the way to Freshwater for some burnt food in the oven?? Unbelievable. No wonder our council taxes are skyrocketing. I suppose it’s response training of a sort. I happened to be on my way back to Newport along Forest Road this afternoon and four police cars, four!, one unmarked, howled by leapfrogging the bollards as they went and flashing like mad. Was it to attend the burnt food? No word in the Echo.
must of been all of them!
I’ve heard this new lot from Hampshire have had full timers going to other stations some evenings because they haven’t got enough retainers
Yes it’s crazy
the council are over run with staff yet the emergency services are struggling the man the calls they get
Newport, Shanklin & Ryde engines?? where were my local firemen? what are the big wigs in this new brigade playing at? Heaven help us when there’s a huge emergency!
Fire /burnt food around 14-00 but all stood down by 14-25 ? Don’t think Shanklin would of got there. No Freshwater!.
What happened to Yarmouth Fire Crew , why did they not attend . ???
