A number of books of condolence have been opened in churches and libraries across the Isle of Wight, at the same time that floral tributes to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II have been laid at Church Litten.
The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that books are now open for the public to sign at County Hall, Newport, as well as Cowes, Freshwater, Ryde, Ventnor and Sandown libraries. County Hall is open Monday-Thursday 08:300-17:00 and Fridays 08:30-16:00, with individual library opening times available on the Council’s website.
Books of condolence have also been opened at a number of churches including Newport Minister, All Saints in Ryde and Christ Church in Sandown. There is also a book open at East Cowes Town Hall.
A National Condolence Online Book is also available to sign at https://www.royal.uk/.
Meanwhile, floral tributes are being welcomed at Church Litten in Newport. A sign has been placed where the Council would like people to place flowers during daylight hours. As of this afternoon, only a small number of flowers have been laid.
A tot of rum was raised at Wight Shipyard in East Cowes.
Arrangements for a local Service of Thanksgiving are in progress and further details will be released shortly.

So who in there right minds authorised a place for a Flower Tribute to HM Elizabeth II in the worst part of Litten Park.Which is actually on the Drug and Drinkers spot on the grass, and also the pooing dogs!
So disrespectful to the Queen, and to those paying there respects and leaving flowers.
Today ( Saturday) there is a lovely lady cleaning up around this area.
The council say they cannot have it in St Thomas’s Sq. because it may get overwhelmed with flowers.
Please protest for a better place than Litten Park.
Agreed there must be better areas to lay a tribute to our dear departed Queen. Surprised they don’t allow it in St Thomas’s Square, it would brighten the place up. I am lighting a candle every evening until her burial not because I don’t believe in flowers but I do think they look better in gardens. Fully appreciate those that choose to lay a flower tribute though it is an individuals choice.
Sadly where on the Island nowdays is there not a place free of drugs.
You can smell it down most Roads.
Very sad state of affairs
Would have been a nice gesture for the Island to do
A Book of Condolence for all those who sadly passed away due
to Covid, they too should be remembered.
